Marvel’s four-year marketing campaign on behalf of The Avengers has paid off. On its opening weekend, the superhero movie not only earned an unprecedented $200.3 million (easily beating the $169.2 million earned last year by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2), but it also set a few other records, including becoming the fastest movie ever to reach $100 million. Box Office Mojo also reports that The Avengers had the highest per-theater average ever for a wide release movie – a stunning $46,057 per screen. (more…)
The Avengers is breaking box office records this weekend and it has won accolades from the vast majority of critics, but Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Sgt. Fury, has declared jihad against one of the few prominent movie critics who dissed the movie. (more…)
The Avengers‘ $80.5 million opening day box office tally is second only to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, which earned $91.1 million on its opening day last summer. Still, Box Office Mojo thinks The Avengers has a good shot at beating Deathly Hallows‘ weekend total of $169.2 million.
The website, which monitors movie domestic and international earnings, thinks there is a chance The Avengers‘ openign weekend grosses will reach $200 million by Sunday night.
